Society of Women Engineers (SWE)

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is the largest organization dedicated to advancing women in engineering and technology and inspiring young girls to aspire to become engineers.

swe.org

DJG worked with SWE to completely over-haul their five-year-old website to improve the experience for members and streamline content. We also wanted to provide visitors with single sign-on capabilities while integrating more effectively with third-party systems, including SWE’s member database. DJG reduced the overall webpage count from more than 800 pages to approximately 50 active pages, keeping key content no more than three clicks away. DJG also developed a mobile version of the site to optimize the overall experience.

Don't miss our interview with Betty Shanahan, CAE, Executive Director & CEO of the Society of Women Engineers in the last slide. This short video features Shanahan discussing the re-build of swe.org.

WE13 Annual Conference

Each year, SWE hosts WE, their Annual Conference for women engineers. The conference marketing creative always features a look and feel that nods to the locale yet remains rooted in the WE brand heritage. WE13, which was held in Baltimore, features the use of dramatic shots of SWE members, a subtle use of local scenery and a bold color palette--all in support of the conference theme: "Make Connections. Make History." DJG developed a number of tactics including a responsive design conference website, print collateral, ads, direct marketing and social media. WE13 was the largest conference by attendance in SWE's history, and featured the largest number of exhibitors and sponsors ever.

K-12 Outreach

To encourage young girls and teens to consider a career in engineering, we developed a combination engineering education brochure and motivational poster. The brochure communicates facts of over 20 engineering disciplines (including salaries) and the poster (on the backside) has an inspiring "Be That Engineer" theme. Thousands of brochures have been distributed and the poster has generated more than 10,000 impressions, 200 likes and 60 shares on facebook. The #bethatengineer hashtag used in the brochure has taken on its own life and netted more than 130,000 impressions in 60 day period. The poster was recently honored with a Business Marketing Association B2 Award of Excellence.

Membership Marketing

How do you encourage and convince current members to renew or prospective members to join? Show that them that it's not about being simply a member--it's about belonging to a community. And then add in enough compelling reasons to make belonging beneficial. SWE did and saw their membership increase 17% between 2012 and 2013.

Social Media

Social media appears to be a here-and-now thing, but it takes planning, creativity and a long-haul commitment to make it work for you. For over a year leading up to the Society of Women Engineer's annual conference, WE13, we continually developed SWE's social media presence. Ultimately we grew their channels by 44%, experienced record-breaking onsite activity, helped drive record conference attendance and created $40,000 in new social media-related sponsorship opportunities.
